Success and Failure
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
Young Winston struggled in school. He failed the entrance exam twice before entering Britain’s military academy.
His early success in politics gave way to midlife failure. And in the mind of the public, his career was ended. Of course, we all know Winston Churchill went on to become England’s prime minister during World War II. But did you know that, after the war, voters tossed him out of office? Despite his wartime leadership and popularity!
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Churchill’s career reminds us that early failure cannot predict future success. Neither can present success guarantee the future. The best thing, the only thing, is to do your best, be your best, in each moment—in the high calling of our daily work.
